The Cheap Guitar Guide
Filed Under Guitar | Leave a Comment
Every musician wants to find a good deal on their instrument, it is human nature to want to obtain the best possible value for your money. Unfortunately many music websites and magazines are reluctant to provide specific suggestions on which guitars to purchase because they see it as an individual choice. This article is designed to provide beginners with a no-nonsense break down of some of the best cheap guitars on the market.
The first instrument on my list is the Squier Fat Stratocaster, this guitar doesn’t isn’t just affordable, it sounds awesome too. Squier are notorious for producing great quality affordable products, they offer a whole range of lines which could make superb first guitars. The Fat Strat looks and feels much like a real Stratocaster, players still benefit from superb playability and a versatile tone. This particular model actually features one humbucking pickup combined with two single coils, this will be ideal for rockers wanting to play really heavy riffs,The Squier Fat Strat retails at around £127 ($200) and is one of the best beginner’s guitars on the market. If you’re looking for a cheap electric guitar which has the whole package then this model is definitely for you.
The second model on my list is the Epiphone G-310 SG. If you’re more of a rocker and feel you need a little bit more power from your instrument then this model is just the thing. The G-310 uses two open coil pickups which will allow you to achieve the heavy sound made famous by the likes of AC/DC and Tony Iommi. The best thing about using a SG shape instrument is its playability, any guitarist who’s ever played one of these babies will agree that these instruments make string bending a breeze and their horned bodies allow for easy access to the higher frets. Despite its superb playability and performance the Epiphone SG310 is a rather cheap guitar, it can be found on many online retailers for as little as £150 ($230), it’s a real bargain.

The final model on my least is arguably the best of the all, whether you’re into rock, indie or even gospel music the Yamaha Pacifica 112V is right for the job. The Pacifica has remained one of the music industry’s top selling instruments below £200 ($330) for many years now and it doesn’t appear to be showing any signs of relenting. The Pacifica 112V has an alder body and a maple neck complete with rosewood fret board. This model uses Alnico pickups; it features 2 single coil and one humbucking pickups. Yamaha have attempted to give this line of instruments a modern vintage sound which makes them suitable to play practically any type of music. If you’re looking for a cheap guitar which will give you limitless tonal possibilities for you to explore then this the 112V is definitely for you.
Players looking to pick up a real quality guitar for cheap should definitely check out the 112V Yamaha Pacifica, they retail for around £200 ($300) from online retailers. If you have the budget you may be able to purchase the 212V model for an extra hundred, but that’s a personal preference.
In conclusion, if you want a cheap guitar which you can rely on to get you through your first tentative years playing the instrument; any of these models will be perfect. Those into heavy metal and rock music may prefer the Epiphone SG 310 because of its dual humbucking pickups; these will really add power to them heavy rock riffs. If you haven’t quite found your style or want an instrument to experiment on then I would recommend either the 112V Pacifica or Squier Fat Strat.
