Finding the perfect left handed guitar
Up until recently left handed guitar players would have encountered real difficulty finding a guitar that is suitable for them, despite the fact that many great guitarists were left handed (e.g. Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendrix, Tony Iommi), anyone looking to purchase a left handed guitar would have their work cut out for them. Fortunately this has all changed, largely due to the mass production of guitars in countries such as Korea and China.
This article is aimed at players who want to find a great quality left handed guitar which is right for them, if you’re not left handed then I can’t imagine how this article will benefit you unless you are considering purchasing on as a gift. First, I advise anyone looking at left handed guitars to purchase them over the internet. Whether you’re looking for a left handed bass guitar or an electric one, the internet will give you the greatest selection of instruments at the best prices. I wouldn’t be surprised if you could buy a guitar for 40% off its recommended retail price.
Secondly, you need to identify what type of guitar you’re after; if you’re a rocker then I imagine you’d be best off buying an electric guitar. If you do then you’re in luck, there far more varieties of left handed electric guitar than any other kind, you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a suitable instrument if you do your research carefully enough. On the other hand if you’re considering buying an acoustic guitar you may have to spend a little bit more time on researching, although there are plenty of left handed acoustic guitars out there, they may cost a bit more than there right handed counterpart.
Once you’ve conducted your research and got a list of at least 3 instruments you like, compare the prices of these instruments using any of the great price comparison websites out there. I prefer simply clicking on the ‘Shopping’ tab in the Google search engine, all you need to do is type in the name of the left handed guitar your after and it will provide a list of the different websites that sell that model and their respective prices.
So there you have it, a couple of tips on how to find the perfect left handed guitar. I would usually recommend players to play any instrument in a guitar store before hand; however I know this isn’t always possible with left handed models. So I would advise to read plenty of reviews and maybe even head down to your local music store and check out the right handed version, just to get a feel of the instrument. Remember, if you’re looking for a left handed acoustic guitar, be patient, there are some great bargains to be had.
